The areas along the southern edge of the city have military bases for homeland defense and for their imperialist pursuits. Horton is home to the great Gelindril Express, a cross continental railroad which transports people and wares to all corners of the continent. It is the chief method by which they get their raw supplies from other empires and also how they transport their finished products as well as military divisions.

The upper class does not necessarily reside in the dense urban areas, in fact the urban area is largely lower class with the exception of the island off the north coast where the governmental infrastructure operates from. Individual, powerful families have the most economic and sometimes political control over the Horton empire, and they all reside within the city of Horton and it's many rural counties.
