The outskirts are quite harsh and poor. The outer segments where the working class resides are in the midst of the refineries, foundries and other industrial processing plants which most Rodasians earn a living from.
The outer segment also has a train system which travels exclusively within the city of Rhodes and another connecting railway system that ventures to a couple of the southern mining communities.
There is a small underground community within the outer segment of the city which have made their homes near the sulfuric springs which heat most of Rhodes. This community is largely a rebellious faction, but mostly in rhetoric, not in application. Their quality of life is much better and more comfortable as they avoid the horridly harsh weather on the surface.
