Gun Mage is a high paced, action packed adventure game about gun wielding wizards, set in a proto-industrial world that was stolen from the Gods, who even now strive to regain control.
The Players serve a dual role, firstly as Gun Mages who are the elite agents of the four major empires or any number of other factions of the world of Gelindril. They act as mercenaries, lawmen, vigilantes, peacekeepers, or military agents.
The other role is to represent one of the Gods of the Ancient Acidian people. The Gods of the Acidian people ruled Gelindril for millennia before the age of mankind, before the empires were formed. These Gods were betrayed and killed by mankind, or so mankind believed. But even now the Gods vie for control over the world by influencing the actions of individuals, completely without their knowing. The Gods have chosen in particular the Gun Mage player characters as their hand on Gelindril, and they will stop at nothing to regain control and be reborn once again.
The game of Gun Mage has elements of a classic Game Master driven RPG but with an underlying yet all encompassing political structure. The players not only seek to accomplish what is presented to them in the story in the form of missions or tasks, but also the players must seek to gain influence by contributing to the overall narrative from the perspective of the God they represent. The player with the most Gunsoul has control of the game at large, becoming the ascendant God.
Gunsoul is the true currency of Gun Mage. Gunsoul is used by Gun Mages to perform amazing, sometimes supernatural feats. The Gods also use it as a reward in order to influence the characters and manipulate the progress of the game. Gun Mages can also earn Gunsoul by doing what a Gun Mage does best: shoot things with their preferred gun, an extension of their own soul. Gods themselves gain Gunsoul for their Gun Mage by orchestrating and completing agendas through other player characters, and by progressing their own overall plan within the story that is unfolding under the control of the current ascendant God.
The Hegemony shifts any time in which a lesser God retains the most gunsoul, and then has the power to determine who is to be the next ascendant God, and hence how the story will progress from that point on.
The way the story unfolds is dynamic and ever changing. The Gods play to the needs and wants of the Gun Mages and use them for their ends, and often times play the Gods against one another in order to ultimately gain total control.
In the course of their missions the Gun Mages may find that new tasks of high importance are presented to them (in the form of Geasa, or special tasks), these special agendas will shape the story at large and involve multiple Gun mages in the plot at hand, which ultimately will lead to a shift in power amongst the Gods.
The Gun Mages have a wide range of skills at their disposal and great powers to wield magical powers through their chosen gun. Versatile and skilled, these heroes may be all that stands before peace and total anarchy in the world of Gelindril.
