Weapons
Melee weapons of various varieties exist but most people prefer the gun these days. The most common is the revolver, and is often the preferred weapon of many gun priests and mages as it allows for quick loading of specialty rounds. Some prefer the breech fed hand gun over the revolver, it has more control over which round gets fired, but is slower since it only holds 3 rounds rather than 6. Some prefer the short stalked carbine which has a bolt breech holding 5 rounds, it is heavier obviously, than a hand gun but is has more powerful ammunition and can be more accurate up to moderate range. The hand cannon as it is called, is merely a heavier and larger version of the revolver, which has higher caliber ammunition. The bolt action riffle is a long riffle with a breech feed and can hold up to 8 rounds of ammo, most gun mages only load in a couple of rounds at a time, or only a single breech fed shot at a time, so that they can plan out their next type of magical round. Steam riffles are generally only used by soldier units aboard air ships, or on front lines of combat, these are powered by a central steam tank or a smaller backpack unit, and they do not use gun powder. These are used commonly in large-scale battles because of the tendency for gun mages to use magical fire rounds to combust the gunpowder of enemy units. With no gun powder present that is no longer a problem. Branders are magical guns, which are equivalent to a high powered shot gun, which in itself charges its rounds with a specific effect as it is fired, so in effect it "brands" the round with an effect. These guns usually have an interchangeable breech so that the user can swap out effects before reloading. These usually hold 8 rounds. Mana canons are heavy weapons which are bulky and heavy, but very powerful. They are equivalent to a grenade launcher and just as deadly. These weapons do not use solid ammo, instead they focus magical power into a manifested attack, usually a fire, ice, lightning, or vibration type attack, these guns can basically perform any kind of attack, which their elemental core is capable of.
There are also custom hybrid weapons made which incorporate a firearm into a melee weapon, or vice versa. The most common of these is of course a bayonet or short blade mounted to the front of a gun, but more elaborate weapons exist which are built into the head shaft of two handed maces, pistols integrated into the hilt of swords, mounted along a blade or impact triggered hammer heads with the firearm built into the head. These weapons are often times very personalized and built exclusively by individuals to suit their needs and preferences.
